Alberto J. Espaillat Torres, our president and founder, has been completing high-profile projects since the late 1970’s in the Dominican Republic. Since the Constructora AE’s foundation in September of 1990, Alberto and his wife Lourdes, have grown the company into one of the most reputable in the country. This recognition of excellence has allowed us to attract a balanced mix of experienced professionals and highly qualified young experts that are adding value to the firm in the areas of structural design, technology, architecture, planning and urban design.

Founder & President

Alberto J. Espaillat Torres

The engineer Alberto J. Espaillat Torres is President and Founder of Constructora AE, SRL, a firm with 31 years of service in the Dominican Republic. He is currently leading the construction of the new Hotel Courtyard by Marriott of Grupo Poma, an attractive 17-story high-rise building in Piantini, the central district of Santo Domingo.

Over the past four decades, Alberto has demonstrated outstanding capacity in leading large-scale civil works, always adhering to the highest quality standards.

In December 2016, Alberto concluded his most recent project the Hotel Majestic Mirage of Grupo Batle, which produced 88 thousand square meters of hospitality infrastructure, 517 hotel rooms and 800 jobs for the east coast of Dominican Republic.

He is currently working in the construction of the new Club Med in Playa Esmeralda, Miches, which began in October 2018 and will be finalized by May 2019.

Vice President

Lourdes Bonnelly de Espaillat

Lourdes Bonnelly de Espaillat is the Vice-President and General Manager of Constructora AE. Together with her husband Alberto and her children, Vanessa, Carlos and Enrique, she looks forward to designing and constructing new ways of living, working and sharing that promote the advancement of our global communities.

Lourdes began her career in 1986, as a reporter for the newspaper Listin Diario, the oldest and leading newspaper in the Dominican Republic. Her experience in the fields of Psychology and Journalism equipped her with the knowledge to create and lead national education initiatives and editorial projects that positively impact thousands of families.

Since 1998, Lourdes is actively involved in the Board of Directors of “La Hora de Dios”, a neighborhood and non-profit institution that assists low-income families thrive through education, health, family supportive services and religious programs.

The new generation of the family have taken on roles within the company and have enriched our ability to respond to the environmental and technological challenges our communities and clients face today.

Carlos Espaillat, the firm’s Senior Project Manager, has built a total of 125,000 m2 of hospitality infrastructure, as well as incorporating new construction technologies making projects more efficient.

Carlos A. Espaillat Bonnelly

Carlos A. Espaillat Bonnelly is currently the Project Manager at Constructora AE SRL, a family company that offers engineering, construction and design services in Dominican Republic. Carlos pursues innovation during the life of the projects by integrating cutting-edge technologies to facilitate the design and construction processes. Carlos is currently leading the construction of the Hotel Courtyard by Marriott, a 17-story urban hotel in the Piantini Sector of Santo Domingo.

Carlos has a Masters in Structural Engineering at Georgia Tech and he studied Civil Enginering at Virgia Tech, where he acquired a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.

In the last decade, Carlos managed the completion of 100,000 m2 of tourism infrastructure and 700 hotel rooms. His most recognized projects include: Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda, Hotel Majestic Mirage, Hotel Majestic Colonial Remodel and the Punta Blanca Golf & Beach Resort.

From 2012 to 2014, Carlos had the opportunity to work for Sentel Architectural Systems in Austin, Texas, a firm dedicated to the design and fabrication of facades and structural glass systems, where he contributed to the glass facade of the Manhattan Beach Library in California.

Vanessa, our associate architect, is the principal of Ella, an emerging design and consultancy firm based in Los Angeles and New York City. She has recently completed an innovative and sustainable master plan design for two kilometers of our Caribbean coastline.

Architect, designer and urbanist

Vanessa Espaillat Lovett

Vanessa collaborates with Constructora AE on projects that require her architecture, design, research and urbanism consulting services. In 2019, we worked together to create an innovative ecotourism master plan in Las Galeras, Samaná. Vanessa is passionate about designing, projecting, and synthesizing effective architectural and urban strategies that promotes the advancement of cities, communities, and businesses. She is currently developing projects in New York, California, Florida and the Dominican Republic. Vanessa is also Project Manager y Special Advisor for Columbia World Projects, Columbia University. She is currently leading a project titled: "Building Climate-Resilient Communities in the Dominican Republic," a new CWP project that aims to strengthen the country’s ability to confront natural disasters and climate change.

Upon completing a Bachelor of Architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana, she moved to London to pursue a Master's Degree in Housing and Urbanism at the AA School of Architecture, home of the most revolutionary intellectuals in contemporary architecture. Upon her return to Santo Domingo, she was hired by the Dominican Government to work on the first Land Use Law. A year later, Espaillat Lovett moved to New York City to pursue a master's degree in Architecture and Urban Design at Columbia University’s GSAPP. The program director, Richard Plunz, a renowned architect, critic and historian, gave her the opportunity to explore global solutions within his Urban Design Lab at the Earth Institute, as well as the opportunity to teach urban architectural studio classes at Columbia University’s GSAPP. Vanessa worked as an Urban Planner and Designer for the City of New York, a position she assumed for three years until January 2017, at which time she decided to start her own project "Ella". Vanessa resides in Los Angeles with her husband, the architect, developer and urban planner Ryan Lovett.
